Recently I joined the Ninja Book Swap, which is an awesome project by Bex, where bookworms can share the love! It works basically like secret Santa, except it’s doesn’t have to be Christmas. If you sign up you get assigned a fellow bookworm, along with what they like or dislike, and their Amazon wishlist. They don’t know who you are until they receive an awesome parcel full of bookish things, sweets, chocolate, a book (or two, or three) they’ve been dying to buy, and a letter from their secret…..BookSanta?….Santa Bookus? I suck at names. This happened a couple of months ago, but I just recently got my parcel due to a mixup at the post office.

Here is what I got:

The Book of Speculation sounds like a very magical book (which is why I had it on my wishlist), just read this:

“A sweeping and captivating debut novel about a young librarian who discovers that his family labours under a terrible curse – for generations, the women in his family have died on the same date in July. Simon must set out to unravel the mystery of this curse, before his beloved sister suffers the same fate. On a day in late June, Simon receives a mysterious book from an antiquarian bookseller; it has been sent to him because it is inscribed with the name Verona Bonn, Simon’s grandmother. The book tells the story of two doomed lovers who were part of a travelling circus more than two hundred years ago. The paper crackles with age as Simon turns the yellowed pages filled with notes and sketches. He is fascinated, yet as he reads Simon becomes increasingly unnerved. Why do so many women in his family drown on 24th July? And could Enola, who has suddenly turned up at home for the first time in years, risk the same terrible fate?”

My BookSanta also got me a book I had never heard of before, Barcelona Plates. It’s a collection of short stories by Alexei Sayle, and after reading the last story in the collection (because when else can you start a book starting at the end?), I must say I do love the style.

She also added some pop candy (POP!), some delicious truffles…..AND AN ARYA BOBBLEHEAD!!! I love Arya, and not only did my BookSanta not know that, but she didn’t even know what was in the box because it was a surprise GoT bobblehead!

It’s time to reveal her identity….It was the lovely Camilla from Twenty Years From Now! Go show her some love and check out her bookish posts!

My parcel went out to Louise at A Novel Haul, which has some really cool reviews. Don’t forget to check them out and go to NinjaBookSwap cause a new swap is coming!
